Important Vehicle Specific Notes and Recommendations

Ford F-150 trucks are the worlds best selling truck platform for a reason, and Filthy Motorsports works with customers every day doing everything from simple King shock replacements (like this kit) to full race-spec long travel kits. These trucks are an excellent platform, but there are a few very important tips that we have to keep in mind to build them well:

1. The factory upper control arms allow for full available travel, however, aftermarket UCAs are recommended at 1.5" of front end lift or above. Filthy Motorsports highly recommends SPC UCAs for their added adjustability as well as their strength and durability. The maximum lift up front that still allows ideal performance and ride quality is 2.5" over average stock height.

2. DO NOT use coilover pre-load to lift the vehicle over 2.5" as that puts the CV shafts, steering linkages, tie rod ends, and control arms at steeper angles and significantly reduces ride quality and component life. If you want more than 2.5" of lift AND excellent performance, you will need an aftermarket lift kit that drops the lower control arms and front differential.

3. 2014 model year F-150 trucks with the older 12th generation body style used the newer 2015 and up cross-shaft style lower control arms and therefore have their own unique King part number based on the 2015 an newer coilovers. For these trucks, please make sure to select the 2014 model in the pull-down menu above.

Complete Suspension Upgrade Recommendations

Improving the performance and handling of 2014 and newer Ford F-150 trucks can be done in many ways on many different budgets, however, it's always best to not spend your hard earned money twice to get your desired results. With that in mind, Filthy Motorsports recommends choosing one of the following options:

1. Best Performance For a Work Truck:
If you use your F-150 as a work truck and need to retain the factory load capacity, we recommend replacing the front struts with these King OEM coilovers and replacing the rear shocks with these King 2.5 piggyback rear shocks. Filthy Motorsports will select the proper front coilover springs and shock valving for you to significantly improve the overall ride and handling of the truck and prevent the factory rear leaf springs from unloading.

2. Best Off-Road Performance on a Budget:
For optimal off-road performance and handling on a reasonable budget, Filthy Motorsports recommends this complete King OEM kit, front and rear with SPC upper control arms and front coilovers. This combination allows for maximum tire size while maintaining proper alignment and the rear shocks will work great with the factory rear leafs and can accommodate up to 2" of lift. For added fine tuning, consider adding the compression adjusters.

3. Best Overall Ride Quality on a Budget:
For those that want the best overall ride quality on and off-road, Filthy Motorsports recommends King OEM coilovers up front paired with SPC upper control arms. For the rear, we suggest changing the rear leaf springs to a custom set of Deaver springs and pairing them with King OEM 2.5 rear shocks to round out the package. This combination allows for maximum suspension travel all around for the best overall ride quality. For further fine tuning, consider adding the King compression adjusters up front.

4. Race-Spec Long Travel:
If your driving style or needs require running down logging roads, forest roads or through the desert at speeds over 60mph for extended periods of time, Filthy Motorsports recommends looking into a full race-spec long travel suspension system with coilovers, bypasses and hydraulic bump stops. Contact us directly for details.

King OEM Performance Shock Upgrade Kits are direct bolt-on replacement shocks and/or coilovers for your vehicle and come custom tuned for the ultimate balance of on-road handling and off-road performance. They include all of the necessary hardware you need for a bolt-on installation that can easily be done over the weekend. Custom length shafts and cylinders are available to work with any brand and size lift kit. Additional options include compression adjusting reservoirs, custom colors, internal or external bypass tubes, and race-spec valving.

Servicing, Tuning, and Rebuilding
All OEM upgrade shocks and coilovers are hand-built with the same parts as all of King's other Performance Race Series shocks. They are completely serviceable, tunable, and rebuildable to last a lifetime and it only requires a few simple hand tools, a few hours, and the appropriate King replacement parts from Filthy Motorsports. If you prefer not to do the work yourself, you can always bring (or send) your shocks to us and we will service them for you.
