Important Vehicle Specific Notes and Recommendations

Ford F-150 trucks are the worlds best selling truck platform for a reason, and Filthy Motorsports works with customers every day doing everything from simple King shock replacements (like this kit) to full race-spec long travel kits. These trucks are an excellent platform, but there are a few very important tips that we have to keep in mind to build them well:

1. The front suspension geometry allows for about 9" of wheel travel with the factory upper control arms and that is plenty for most applications when combined with well tuned coilovers. For performance applications, replacing the factory upper control arms with aftermarket Camburg UCAs will allow for a bit more down travel and allow for the use of extended travel King coilovers.

2. DO NOT use coilover pre-load to lift the vehicle over 2.5" as that puts the CV shafts, steering linkages, tie rod ends, and control arms at steeper angles and significantly reduces ride quality and component life. If you want more than 2.5" of lift AND excellent performance, you will need an aftermarket lift kit that drops the lower control arms and front differential.

3. 2014 model year F-150 trucks with the older 12th generation body style used the newer 2015 and up cross-shaft style lower control arms and therefore have their own unique King part number based on the 2015 an newer coilovers. For these trucks, please make sure to select the 2014 model in the pull-down menu above.

Complete Suspension Upgrade Recommendations

Improving the performance and handling of 2014 and newer Ford F-150 trucks can be done in many ways on many different budgets, however, it's always best to not spend your hard earned money twice to get your desired results. With that in mind, Filthy Motorsports recommends choosing one of the following options:

1. Best Performance For a Work Truck: [ $2,265 Delivered ]
If you use your F-150 as a work truck and need to retain the factory load capacity, we recommend replacing the front struts with these King OEM coilovers and replacing the rear shocks with these King 2.5 piggyback rear shocks. Filthy Motorsports will select the proper front coilover springs and shock valving for you to significantly improve the overall ride and handling of the truck and prevent the factory rear leaf springs from unloading.

2. Best Off-Road Performance on a Budget: [ $2,955 Delivered ]
For optimal off-road performance and handling on a reasonable budget, Filthy Motorsports recommends this complete King OEM kit, front and rear with Camburg upper control arms and front coilovers built with the extended travel option. This combination allows for improved front suspension travel and maximum tire size. The rear shocks will work great with the factory rear leafs and can accommodate up to 2" of lift.

3. Best Overall Ride Quality on a Budget: [ $4,275 to $4,550 Delivered ]
For those that want the best overall ride quality on and off-road, Filthy Motorsports recommends King OEM coilovers up front, built to extended travel specs and paired with Camburg upper control arms. For the rear, we suggest changing the rear leaf springs to a custom set of Deavers and pairing them with King OEM 2.5 rear shocks to round out the package. This combination allows for maximum suspension travel all around for the best overall ride quality. For further fine tuning, consider adding the King compression adjusters up front.

4. Race-Spec Long Travel:
If your driving style or needs require running down logging roads, forest roads or through the desert at speeds over 60mph for extended periods of time, Filthy Motorsports recommends looking into a full race-spec long travel suspension system with coilovers, bypasses and hydraulic bump stops. Contact us directly for details.

Remember, all orders are treated as custom orders and we will review the spring rates, valving, and configuration to make sure they not only fit the vehicle, but also match your expectations and goals.

Free Spring Exchange Program: All King OEM Coilover Kits are covered by the Filthy Motorsports Free Spring Exchange Program. While we always do our best to select the proper spring for your vehicle, if the ones we send you settle the vehicle too high or too low, let us know and we'll swap them out for you.

King Compression Adjusters Upgrade
Add 16 levels of compression valving adjustments to your King OEM shocks with King's proprietary compression adjustable reservoirs. Easily switch from a soft, street-friendly ride to stiff, race-ready valving by simply turning the adjustment knob on the reservoirs. Includes custom valving.

King Internal Bypass (IBP) Upgrade
Upgrade your King OEM shocks with an Internal Bypass that consists of a secondary piston and a tapered metering rod that gradually increases the compression valving during the last few inches of compression travel and ultimately serves as a built-in hydraulic bump stop.

External Bypass Tubes Upgrade
For OEM applications where space permits, up to four externally adjustable bypass tubes can be added for compression and rebound zone tuning. Bypass tubes are placed in strategic areas on the shock and are paired with special valving for the ultimate shock setup.

Custom Colors and Finishes
While the standard King-blue components look spectacular, your custom color and finish options are only limited by your imagination. Available finishes include color anodizing, color powder coating, black zinc coating, chrome plating, and even gold plating. Contact us for pricing.

Camburg Upper Control Arm Upgrade
Camburg desert racing upper control arms feature welded and heat treated chromoly arms, over-sized uniball joints, and polyurethane bushings or heim joints for added strength, increased wheel travel, and improved long-travel geometry for better off-road handling.

King OEM Performance Shock Upgrade Kits are direct bolt-on replacement shocks and/or coilovers for your vehicle and come custom tuned for the ultimate balance of on-road handling and off-road performance. They include all of the necessary hardware you need for a bolt-on installation that can easily be done over the weekend. Custom length shafts and cylinders are available to work with any brand and size lift kit. Additional options include compression adjusting reservoirs, custom colors, internal or external bypass tubes, and race-spec valving.

Servicing, Tuning, and Rebuilding
All OEM upgrade shocks and coilovers are hand-built with the same parts as all of King's other Performance Race Series shocks. They are completely serviceable, tunable, and rebuildable to last a lifetime and it only requires a few simple hand tools, a few hours, and the appropriate King replacement parts from Filthy Motorsports. If you prefer not to do the work yourself, you can always bring (or send) your shocks to us and we will service them for you within one business day.
