Important Vehicle Specific Notes and Recommendations

Toyota 200 Series Land Cruisers are very popular in the US and overseas due to their advanced 4x4 drivetrain and reliable chassis and suspension system. They are the perfect platform for daily drivers, weekend wheelers, expedition vehicles and even luxury pre-runners and dune racers. Each of these applications requires different suspension attributes and Filthy Motorsports works directly with each customer to make sure the spring rates, valving, and overall configuration of the suspension is in line with their needs and expectations. With that in mind, there are a few important things we need to consider when building a well tuned suspension system for a Land Cruiser 200 Series:

1. Unlike other Toyota trucks and SUVs, the Land Cruiser 200 allows for maximum front suspension travel with the factory upper control arms. Filthy Motorsports still highly recommends the SPC UCAs for added strength, reliability, and proper alignment adjustments.

2. DO NOT use coilover pre-load to lift the vehicle more than 2.5". The factory geometry works best at about 2" over stock and lifting it beyond 2.5" will cause the CV shafts, steering linkages, tie rod ends, and control arms to run at excessive angles that will reduce ride quality and component life. If you want more than 2.5" of lift and excellent performance, you will need an aftermarket lift kit.

Complete Suspension Upgrade Recommendations

Improving the performance and handling of a 2008 and newer Land Cruiser can be done in many ways on many different budgets, however, it's always best to not spend your hard earned money twice to get your desired results. With that in mind, Filthy Motorsports recommends choosing one of the following options:

1. Best Performance on a Budget:
If you are looking for the best overall improvement for your hard earned dollar, we recommend these King coilovers up front and King shocks in the rear with factory front upper control arms and factory rear springs. The LC200 is already a proven platform as is, so high performance shocks all around is all it takes to complete the package.

2. Best Trail Runner Performance:
For those that want the best performance off-road and on the trails with a bit of added weight and larger tires, Filthy Motorsports recommends these King OEM coilovers up front with SPC Upper Control Arms. For the rear, we recommend Old Man Emu (OME) overload rear springs to match any added weight combined with King's rear shocks. For extra fine tuning, consider upgrading to shocks with compression adjusters.

3. Best Aggressive Driving Performance on a Budget:
We've worked with hundreds of LC200 owners over the years and have found that many like to push their rigs to the absolute limit on the trails, in the desert, and out at the dunes. Luckily, on a relatively affordable budget, the 200 Series Land Cruiser can be built to exceed the capabilities of most drivers. For these applications, Filthy Motorsports recommends King OEM coilovers up front with compression adjusters and Camburg Uniball upper control arms. Out back, we suggest the proper overload Old Man Emu springs, paired with King shocks with compression adjusters.

4. Race-Spec Long Travel:
If your driving style or needs require running down logging roads, forest roads or through the desert at speeds over 60mph for extended periods of time, Filthy Motorsports recommends looking into a full race-spec long travel suspension system with coilovers, bypasses and hydraulic bump stops. Contact us directly for details.

King OEM Performance Shock Upgrade Kits are direct bolt-on replacement shocks and/or coilovers for your vehicle and come custom tuned for the ultimate balance of on-road handling and off-road performance. They include all of the necessary hardware you need for a bolt-on installation that can easily be done over the weekend. Custom length shafts and cylinders are available to work with any brand and size lift kit. Additional options include compression adjusting reservoirs, custom colors, internal or external bypass tubes, and race-spec valving.

Servicing, Tuning, and Rebuilding
All OEM upgrade shocks and coilovers are hand-built with the same parts as all of King's other Performance Race Series shocks. They are completely serviceable, tunable, and rebuildable to last a lifetime and it only requires a few simple hand tools, a few hours, and the appropriate King replacement parts from Filthy Motorsports. If you prefer not to do the work yourself, you can always bring (or send) your shocks to us and we will service them for you.

I’ve got the shocks and springs and managed to install it today. I have to say I’m extremely happy on how the car rides, it's a million time better than the Fox and Stock combined.
